The correct choise of shut-off valve depends on different factors: How big is the pipe dimension? What is pressure and temperature? What is the requirement for the leek? Is the media abrasive?
A ball valve or butterfly valve will often be the obvious choice (due to the price). For more extreme tasks, such as overheated steam (over 12 bar), valve types like seat valves, piston valves and gate valves will be usable. Here you should be aware that only the piston valve can achieve 100% density.
